WordPress Lead Capture Page Management Made Simple

WordPress Lead Capture Page Management Made Simple

Understanding how to create and manage your WordPress blog lead capture page using the right plugin is a key part of becoming successful at online marketing.

A high priority for anyone developing an online sales business is learning how to build a subscriber list. The more effective your lead capture pages are the quicker your subscriber list grows.

Capture pages must encourage visitors to subscribe, therefore managing when they appear and being able to quickly fine tune the look of the capture page is important.

Redirect on exit is a common method of attempting to capture subscribers. The down side with this type of capture is the potential that it will put off repeat visitors. This can become a more of a problem if your capture page turns people off what you are trying to sell.

Also how do you switch off these redirects once a visitor has become a subscriber?

Fine tuning what your capture pages look like and being able have capture pages pop up at different times improves your  potential for success.

BigSellingOptins OptinPop WordPress Plugin resolves all these problems. With a free entry level tool and also an affordable advanced solution for a onetime payment of $47 dollars.

To download your own copy of the OptinPop software click on the download button and you can read the rest of this blog with your own copy of the files for reference.

 Capture Page

OptinPop advanced includes membership access to special list building templates, advanced templates and valuable insider articles.

The WordPress Plugin OptinPop free version 4.1:

OptinPop includes free templates, a comprehensive video installation information and free email support!

I had an issue which was resolved within an hour of sending an email and a follow up email ensuring my problem was resolved.

OptinPop has an “on load” feature with a seconds delay option. This useful delay option allows capture pages to appear at a predefined time after the web page is loaded.

For example it can be set to appear on a page where visitors spend most time. Each time a web page on your site is opened the timer is reset so that pages where visitors don’t spend much time will not have the capture page appear. This is far less invasive and when the capture page does appear the visitor can easily close it and continue to view the web page information that they were interested in.

The other features include a light box effect which grays out the background when the capture page is displayed and a day option which will only allow the capture page to appear for once a day or once in any number of days selected.

I have installed and used this free OptinPop version and found to work well  It’s a useful first step for learning how to create and manage lead capture pages.

I used the free capture form templates; again it’s a great first step to learning how to create your own custom capture pages.  This knowledge is powerful because it enables you to control key aspects of your business.

The next paragraphs go through the install and configuration process for the free OptinPop. This is followed by OptinPop Advanced and at the end of the blog the basics of adding auto responder scripts into a capture page template.

A very attractive feature of OptinPop Advanced is the ability to easily split test up to ten capture pages with ultimate control over when and where they appear.

Simple plugin download and install:

The following link will take you directly to the free download page with information video.

OptinPop version 4.1

It installs is like any other plugin with the downloaded zip file uploaded through the WordPress Plug ins “add new” upload feature from your pc zip file directory.

OptinPop is then added to your plugins list and has to be activated. An OptinPop Settings menu is accessed from the WordPress left side bar Plugins drop down feature menu.

Capture Page Configuration:

The configuration is very straight forward.  The URL for the pop up is pasted into top “page to show” paste box. Opt in pop up width and height pixel sizes need to be added and delay in second’s value if required.

The light box can be either enabled or disabled. Visitor always will trigger the pop up on each page load or on exit from the currently displayed page.

The day option value restricts the same visitor from seeing the pop up more once in a day with the option to select a number of days before the same visitor will see it again.

Using the free Lead Capture form templates:

These are html and image jpg files that can be downloaded from OptinPop Form Templates

I like this format because it’s quick and easy to create.  If you pay to have your captures pages created it quickly becomes expensive.

Alternatively this can be done with a hosting plan web page tool. However, there are sizing and formatting issues that can become a hassle.

Lead capture pages are very simple web pages and can be created using free html templates. I collect website templates so that I have a good selection of images and code which can be used as component parts to create good looking lead capture page.

If you have some creative skills and a little experience cutting a pasting html scripts into  sidebar widgets. Then creating your own html capture pages can be an exciting next step!

Completed lead capture files are uploaded into the website public_html folder and the form images stored in a images folder under the public_html folder. Then the URL path is pasted into the Optin settings menu, the page height and width and desired pop up options are selected. Then click on the update options button and the capture page is ready top pop next time a new visitor enters the website.

Building your own capture pages will be the topic of my next blog. Adding responder scripts into a basic Capture pop up form is covered in this blog, but first take a look at the powerful features that OptinPop Advanced provides.

OptinPop Advanced version 4.1:

I have only had the OptinPop Advanced installed for a short while and I’m loving it!

I  consider it to be $47 well spent.

The product come bundled with a membership access which includes custom list building templates. Also templates with embedded video bundled with lots of very useful insider articles, tips and other resources.

You make a onetime payment for access to the membership area on the BigSellingOptins web site where the OptinPop Advanced zip file downloaded with no restriction on it being used for multiple websites.

I have emailed Brian a few with questions prior to deciding on buying the advanced tool and the service he has provided has been great.

The key factor for going with this option is the ability to use multiple capture pages, split test them on any page combinations, in any sequence and at any time of your choosing. This is truly an awesomely powerful tool! Having multiple custom capture page templates available it then takes only a little effort to customize your own capture pages and fine tune them to maximize your opt ins.

With inexpensive graphics tools like the Corel Paintshop Photo Pro you can create good looking capture backgrounds that can be quickly swapped into an existing capture page templates.

Click on the OptinPop Advanced 4.1 link and follow the simple quick process to get your membership, access to the advanced tool, additional free custom templates and other valuable membership benefits.

Adding auto responder code into forms:

This can be a little tricky If you have not added auto responder scripts into custom forms before. However, only four script items from three areas need to be copied into the html capture form.

I’m using a copy of the free KompoZer editor that can be downloaded from http://kompozer.sourceforge.net/ for the from editing.

This example uses Aweber form scripts. Not all form provider scripts are the same. I will be pleased to provide assistance with this for other form types for my subscriber members..

A video version of this information can also be found on the form template web page at: BBigsellingoptins Video

The following is a text version which I have simplified, it should be slightly quicker and I hope a little easier to work with.

Creating a Lead Capture Pop-Up:

First unzip your from template into a PC folder and using your KompoZer editor open the folder index.html file to display the template.

There three types of script that you will need to take from your Aweber form raw html script and place into the appropriate locations in your form html file.

Two of these items can be taken directly out of the Aweber page and placed into open Wordpad document for later use.

If you look at the raw file you see # class information at the top then under that there will be body {} followed by style syntax.  Under style, highlight form method and input type down to the </div>. Thendo a  copy paste into a WordPress document. The script should be similar to what you see below.

<form method=”post” class=”af-form-wrapper” action=”http://www.aweber.com/scripts/addlead.pl”  >
<div style=”display: none;”>
<
input type=”hidden” name=”meta_web_form_id” value=”xxxxxxxxxxx34″ />
<input type=”hidden” name=”meta_split_id” value=”” />
<input type=”hidden” name=”listname” value=”7dayseo” />
<input type=”hidden” name=”redirect” value=”http://www.aweber.com/thankyou.htm?m=default” id=”redirect_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx317″ />

<input type=”hidden” name=”meta_adtracking” value=”SEOPressor” />
<input type=”hidden” name=”meta_message” value=”1″ />
<input type=”hidden” name=”meta_required” value=”name,email” />

<input type=”hidden” name=”meta_tooltip” value=”” />
</div>

Next go to the bottom of the script and copy the java script from open to closing java <script> syntax as shown below. Paste it into your Wordpad file under the previously copied script.

<script type=”text/javascript”>
<!–
(function() {
var IE = /*@cc_on!@*/false;
if (!IE) { return; }
if (document.compatMode && document.compatMode == ‘BackCompat’) {
if (document.getElementById(“af-form-xxxxxxxx34”)) {
document.getElementById(“af-form-xxxxxxxx34”).className = ‘af-form af-quirksMode’;
}
if (document.getElementById(“af-body-xxxxxxxx34”)) {
document.getElementById(“af-body-xxxxxxxxx34”).className = “af-body inline af-quirksMode”;
}
if (document.getElementById(“af-header-xxxxxxxxxx34”)) {
document.getElementById(“af-header-xxxxxxxxxxx34”).className = “af-header af-quirksMode”;
}
if (document.getElementById(“af-footer-xxxxxxxxxx34”)) {
document.getElementById(“af-footer-xxxxxxxxxx34”).className = “af-footer af-quirksMode”;
}
}
})();
–>
</script>

Note: that I have removed the codes from my copy of the Aweber form which are used for these examples.

Then take the full Aweber raw code open up a new KompoZer editor session and paste the raw code into the source of the bank html file under <body>.

If you go to preview you now see the Aweber form in the top middle of the page. You will need two pieces of input “name” and “email” address code to plug into your new opt in form.

This in simply found by clicking the Aweber input box for name and email address and changing back to the source view.  You will see a flashing “|” at the start of the input script which should look like this.

Name:

<input
id=”awf_field-xxxxxx26″ name=”name” class=”text” value=”” tabindex=”500″ type=”text” />

Email Address:

<input
class=”text” id=”awf_field-xxxxxx27″ name=”email” value=”” tabindex=”501″ type=”text” />

Note: that I have removed the codes from my copy of the Aweber form which are used for these examples.

Now you should have all the auto responder script you need in your Wordpad document.

Now in the KompoZer editor new from template you will see the following.

<!– Form begins here –> <td>

<form id=”form1″ name=”form1″ method=”post” action=””>

Highlight the area shown in yellow and paste first Wordpad script between method and the </div> into the form.

Save the file after doing this.

Then in preview click on the name entry box and again look for the flashing  “|” in the source script start which should look like this.

<input name=”textfield” size=”27″ type=”text” /></td>

Take the wordfile name script as follows and paste it over the highlighted script.

<input id=”awf_field-17486026″ name=”name” class=”text” value=”” tabindex=”500″ type=”text” />

Do the same for the email input text box like so, and then save the html file again.

<input name=”textfield2″  size=”27″ type=”text” /></td>

<input class=”text”  id=”awf_field-17486027″ name=”email” value=””   tabindex=”501″ type=”text” />

Finally copy the java script from the Wordpad file and paste it between the form ends comment text </ td> at the bottom of the new form template.

Do a save again.

Now all that remains for you to do is to edit form in the KompoZer editor preview to include the text that you want your pop up to convey to opt in audience.

This is a what can be done quickly with the default form template using a free graphical editor like KompoZer.

My next blog will provide details on editing and creating new opt in capture pages.

The great thing about this OptinPop is that you can easily find free html templates and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to create good looking capture pages.

The html file is transferred into the /public_html folder where there is also an image folder.

I’m using a copy of the Corel Paint Shop photo Pro to do my graphics editing. At $80 it provides the features needed to create good looking graphics.
